EMERALD GUARD

THIRTY-THIRD VIRGINIA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY,

CO. “E”

A Civil War reenactment and living history organization from the mid-Atlantic States, and one of the founding units of the Stonewall Brigade.

The modern day “Emerald Guard”, Thirty-Third Virginia Volunteer Infantry, Company “E”) was organized in the mid-1970’s and, along with the 4th Virginia Company A (“Wythe Grays”) formed the nucleus of the reactivated Stonewall Brigade.

The Emerald Guard strives to portray as accurately as possible the common Confederate soldier in the Army of Northern Virginia. In particular, our focus is centered on the appearance, character, and history of The Shenandoah soldiers who came to be known as Stonewall Jackson’s “foot cavalry” at the height of their success in the Summer of 1862.

Because of the diversity of events we attend, we also portray other Confederate units when the Stonewall Brigade impression is not appropriate and are beginning to research and portray Union soldiers of the Army of the Potomac to expand our impression.

The Emerald Guard attends a variety of activities including battle reenactments, preservation marches, and living history programs in and around the Mid-Atlantic region.

On its own, the Emerald Guard also supports local educational programs at area schools, museums and other historic sites. For a list of our upcoming activities, please click on our Schedule of Events link below.

As our organization is made up of volunteers, the Emerald Guard is always interested in recruiting new members. For more information on how to get involved in reenacting click on the Recruiting link below.
