Company D 27th Virginia Infantry Regiment
"The Monroe Guard"
A Civil War reenactment and living history organization from the Mid Atlantic States

Company D, 27th Virginia Volunteer Infantry now...

The reactivated 27th Virginia, Company D is a member of the Stonewall Brigade and Jackson's Division. We are a group of dedicated re-enactors who try to historically portray a Confederate infantry unit during the American Civil War. Members are encouraged to research the war, soldier's accounts, and to learn the drill that every soldier of the time knew.

The 27th takes part in many types of Civil War events; from winter camps, to living histories, to large scale battle scenarios. We will camp according to the scenario being depicted. Being a part of the Stonewall Brigade allows our members to attend a large and diverse schedule of events.

Company D, 27th Virginia regiment began on May 2, 1982 with a roster of six men. They applied and became members of the Stonewall Brigade that same year.

The Stonewall Brigade is known throughout the reenacting community for its authenticity in dress and tactics. A list of suggested sutlers can be found on the Stonewall Brigade Recommended Vendor Page. The unit has participated in every major reenactment in the eastern theater from First Manassas to Appomattox during both the 125th anniversary and the 135th anniversary battles. Members take part in NPS sponsored living histories at Manassas, Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry and regional parks like Kernstown.

The unit also seeks out events where the proceeds go directly to battlefield preservation, such as events at McDowell and Kernstown, which support local grassroots preservation organizations. Several members are active members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Members volunteer their time in their local communities to educate school and civic groups on the American Civil War and the life of the common soldier.
